Alhamdulillah, seperti yang dirancangkan. Lawatan kami telah berjalan dengan lancar mengikut yang dijadualkan. Semua penuntut yang hadir merasa lawatan kali ini adalah yang paling memuaskan. Kami berpeluang untuk mencuba pelbagai aktibiti yang diadakan seperti menganyam bakul, tarian asli Puak Dusun iaitu mengalai. Kami juga berpeluang untuk berjalan - jalan di kawasan Taman Herba dan juga melawat Gelari Muzium Balai Purun. Dan yang paling menyeronokkan kami berpeluang untuk meronda - ronda Tasek Merimbun menggunakan boat yang disediakan. Semasa lawatan ini, sedikit sebanyak kami mengetahui sejarah Puak Dusun.

Semoga dengan lawatan kami ni, akan membuka mata penduduk Brunei supaya mengunjungi Tasek Merimbun. Dan juga pelancong - pelancong dari luar negara dapat berpeluang untuk membuat lawatan ke Tasek Merimbun yang mana, akan meningkatkan lagi industri pelancongan di Negara kita ini.

Jogging & Hiking: The Might Bukit Teraja

Last Sunday on the 24th of July, the PTEK Jogging & Hiking club went to hiked Bukit Teraja, Belait. It all started when most of the students and teachers came around 6:30 in morning. All of them were excited about the prospect of this trip and hiking one of the tallest mountains in Brunei. As soon as we came, we all left with the bus around 7 AM.

The journey took almost 2 hours at least. We made a stop at the longhouse in Belait to donate some necessities to the people living in the longhouse. After that we continue the journey to Bukit Teraja. Once we reached there, we all gathered and pray for our safety. Once we're done and ready, the journey started there. It was tiring and challenging and the part of the hill is so steep. Part 1 of the hill was completed almost 2 hours. Before starting part 2 of the journey to Bukit Teraja, we decided to take a break because it's a tall hill.

Like the first part,part 2 is the most difficult part,especially getting to the summit. Have to go through obstacles and avoided thorns and leeches. It took us 2 hours to reach the summit and once we reached there, we were surrounded by dragonflies IF some of you noticed it.We took this opportunity to rest and take pictures.Once we're done, another 4 hours journey back to the starting point.

Journey back to the starting point was tiring for everyone. Most of us got hungry and thirsty ads well. Steep hills stood in our way but nothing can stop our desires to go back to the starting point and devour our cuisine! All of us were worn out and relieved when we reached the starting point especially I, Mohammad Mizwar was relieved. We entered the bus and went to the Wasai to change and had a little picnic. Everyone laughed and chatted with one another, it was a fun trip overall. Everyone enjoyed it. Once we all ate and changed our clothes, we packed out stuff and journey back to PTEK.

In the bus, well , most of us fell asleep but some lighten up the whole atmosphere by singing throughout the journey. Can tell they're not tired AT ALL. We all had fun at the end of the day. Everyone enjoyed this experience and hopefully one day we might hike Bukit Teraja again.

Trip to SMARTER

On March 14th, all Sociology students and teachers had a visit to SMARTER Sengkurong to hand in our donations from Sociology Charity Race and Charity Sale. We arrived at 2 p.m and were greeted by all the staffs on duty. Students were divided into groups and were given a tour around the area. Some of us were also given a chance to talk and interact with the children who were having their afternoon classes. We were brought to their classes, dining area, play area, swimming pool and trampoline area.

Nevertheless, it was a very fun visit. Not only we get to see the children, we could also experience how they study and manage their time schedule. It was indeed an eye-opening experience, just like our trip to Pusat Bahagia.

After an hour or so touring around, we were brought to their play area, where we the teachers handed in our donations to the founder of SMARTER, Malai Abdullah. After that, we had a group photo with all the children. The trip ended at about 4 p.m.

Commonwealth Day

Celebrated at every second Monday of March, this year's World Commonwealth Day's theme is Women As Agent Of Change. PTE Katok is not an exception in marking this important day. In conjunction to this, uncountable - and even unreadable to some extent - signatures were made at the large white banner provided as students and teachers gathered to express their love towards their female role models.

SMARTER talk - increasing the awareness of Individuals With Autism

Today, March 3rd, PTEKatok was blessed with the presence of the founder of SMARTER (Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources) Malai Hj Abdullah bin Hj Malai Othman. It is a huge gratitude for all of us who attended his presentation regarding the the awareness of Autism in the society.

In his an hour and a half talk in the LT 1, we were shown the activities and the pictures of the students at SMARTER and were touched with their performances such as them going to the dentist and fine-dining. This showed that individuals with autism are able to be independent if they are given chances.

SMARTER is an association run by Parents and Family members for parents and family members exclusively for Autism with the motto “from the Cradle To the Grave In a seamless journey to independence”

The sociology department invited our guest of honour so that we become aware of the reason for the charity race which soon will be held on March 10th - to collect a donation for the SMARTER organisation.

The talk ended with a Q&A session and the promoting of the SMARTER play “Oddy in the Woods”.

Sociology trip to JaPeM and Pusat Bahagia for U6 students!

On 1st March 2011, Pusat Tingkatan Enam Katok’s Sociology department organized a visit to Jabatan Pembangunan Masyarakat, Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sports with 74 students and 4 teachers attending.
The event started at 9 a.m with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat at Dewan Citra Budaya. It then proceeded to a briefing by one of the officers in Jabatan Pembangunan Masyarakat (JAPEM) regarding their section, receivers of the support as well as acts and orders available under JAPEM.
After the briefings, all students and teachers were opened to a question-and-answer session regarding on the briefings given. Everyone was then welcomed to enjoy the meal provided.

After the sessions, students were brought to Pusat Bahagia Brunei-Muara to visit and interact with the special students. They were brought for touring around the classrooms of different uses where they can interact and take pictures with the students of Pusat Bahagia.

After the touring, they went to the shop where all sold items are hand-made by students of Pusat Bahagia and some even bought a couple of things, as a reminder to the wonderful visit.

They proceeded to the hall to enjoy the performances of students of Pusat Bahagia. One of our students even got the chance to perform for everyone!

The trip was definitely an eye-opener for everyone and it was such a great experience. On behalf of the sociology students, we would like to thank our teachers who were involved in organizing such event and making it successful!

Day 2 of Lower Six Orientation

The event started with a religious talk and followed with various talks from the SA department and the HRD department. Meanwhile, their afternoon session started with a fun activity at the sports arena where they were grouped into their respective sports-houses and competed against each other.

Shortly after, they were further entertained with the CCA performances in the MPH. Following that, they were given the time to register for their respective CCA clubs that they are interested in.

Their two-days orientation wrapped up with the recital of the student's Ikrar and a remarkable speech delivered by our beloved Principal.

And on behalf of the seniors and members of the staff, we would like to officially welcome the juniors to PTEK!

This morning, PTEK admitted about 550 students. New faces were seen and some were even from the cohort 2 two week program stay-in. All the students were told to sit according to their BEs and they did their payment and got received their PE t-shirts and ties, for the male students.

The event started with the national anthem sung by the choir team and then Doa led by Cikgu Nash and the reading of surah from the Holy Quran by Muhammad Hadi bin Bujang. The students were then introduced to the senior masters and mistresses of the school and they were told to watch slide shows. After that, the students were told to watch a video containing their pictures from their previous stay in PTEK.

A career talk was given afterwards by head of the career department, Miss Soveyanna.

Their afternoon session was the ice-breaking session. They were grouped according to their BEs and they played a lot of games, such as the name game, the mix and match and etc. Towards the end, they had a session with the student councillors where the student councillors introduced themselves and nearly all of the Heads of each Bureaus gave a little blurb about their jobs.

Finally, today, 23rd February 2011, marks the 27th year of independence for Brunei Darussalam! As like the previous year, this year's theme is 'Negaraku Brunei Darussalam' / 'My Country, Brunei Darussalam'. Like any other years before, today is a very anticipated day as all walks of life would be about town, showing their patriotism for their country, Brunei.

This year was no different; PTEK patriotically joined other walks of life for the nationwide celebration at Taman SOAS earlier this morning. Although it had rained earlier that morning, still the patriotism running through each of the student's blood did not falter, but they were more determined to make their performance a blast.

About 7000 participants, from over 100 institutions and ministries, marched confidently with smiles etched upon their faces, in front of His Majesty The Sultan. PTEK was the 89th group to have this wonderful privilege to march proudly, heads held up high, showing their patriotism.

Thank you to all the MPs, MPIs and Prefects as well as members of the teaching staff and our beloved Principal for participating in today's event and for representing PTEK wondrously!

Thanksgiving Ceremony and Certificates presentation.

A thanksgiving ceremony and certificates presentation for all participants of 46th SEAMEO Council Conference and 6th ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting - Diner Reception and Cultural Night were held at Sekolah Rendah Rimba 2 on the 17th of February at 2:30 pm. On behalf of Brunei's Minister of Education, his personal assistant attended the event to present the certificates. Along with the certificates was a VCD containing the event from the night.

The event started with Doa' Selamat, which then followed by a recap of the night's event. A speech was given on behalf of our Minister of Education, thanking all the participants for the teamwork and the success of the event, followed by the presentation of certificates to all the participants. After the presentation of certificates, everyone was told to enjoy the meal provided.

Registration Day

Alhamdulillah, a successive PTEK Registration Day was held for three consecutive days from 7th February until 9th February. Numerous 'O' Level achievers walked proudly to our school hall to enroll themselves to be part of our beloved PTEK family.

A significant interest was seen towards a newly introduced subject, Design & Technology, despite the high demands of other competitively interesting courses. IGCSE English is also a newly introduced subject among the stand which is believed to help the upcoming students who have poor language skills to succeed with English 'O' Level before pursuing to the usual 'AS' level English Subject.

Overall, the number of students who have registered to PTEK within those three days exceeded over 450 pupils. This saw an increase from the number of students who have registered for the 2010 PTEK intake. The statistics clearly showed the importance of good education that the campus has to offer.

On 14th of February 2011, PTEK held an assembly to commemorate the hoisting of the national flag that was held at the open space near the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien (SOAS) earlier this month.

The event started with a speech presented by our Principal, Cikgu Hjh Rosni, regarding the history of the flag and how we should always respect the flag. In addition, she also touched about the emblem of the flag where she described each component of the emblem to mark its importance.

The flag rose slowly to the strains of the national anthem, "Allah Peliharakan Sultan" lead by PTEK's Choir Club, followed by the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah and finally, a recital of the school's Doa to wrap up the assembly.

It's been a nerve-wrecking week as O/A/AS level students throughout the nation murmured the coming out of the results. Today, 5th February 2011, MOE has finally released the long-awaited results that makes these tears of joy and some sadness to have fallen down.

46th SEAMEO Council Conference and 6th ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting - Diner Reception and Cultural Night

On 28th January 2011, four prefects from the Bureau of Media and ICT and their ICT teacher, Ms Khadizah Ibrahim, were chosen as part of the event's participants where they were asked to prepare a backdrop for the dinner reception.

The event was held at Empire Theatre, Empire Hotel and Country Club and attended by all ASEAN Education Ministers who attended the 46th SEAMEO Council Conference and 6th ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting from 26th to 29th January.

During the night, the ministers were treated to a variety of cultural performances by different schools and sixth form centers as well as musical performances by SM Sayyidina Abu Bakar Choir and orchestra performances.

Although PTE Katok did not join any performances, however, by contributing a little to the event still give a greater impact not only to the event itself but to the school's name.

We all know about the story of our cohort one students, but do you know what makes them different from the cohort two students? Well, first and foremost, the cohort one students were those selected in advance to experience the life of a sixth former due to their promising June GCE O’ Level as well as their Qualifying Exam results. Secondly, these cohort two students were only in school for about two weeks for which they've undergone study skills program.

During the first week of the cohort two’s stay, lecturers no longer give an image of an orientation as a 24-hour long talk but instead they used a very smart approach; they inserted various activities for the students, ranging from light exercises, debates, self-introductions, fun quizzes, games and many more.

Their second week of staying was known as the ‘familiarization week'; involving a brief talk of every subject that was offered in PTEKatok for the students to consider, a tour around the school and a wonderful ice breaking session.

On their last day during their two week stay, the cohort two had a very productive and healthy morning; performing an energetic aerobic session that was lead by the teachers and fellow student councilors. The event was followed by a closing ceremony led by Cikgu Amal, the deputy principal. She gave a short speech that concluded the two week program that was designed for the students to prepare themselves for the challenges that A-level may bring them.

Sabtu, 22 Januari 2011- Pusat Tingkatan Enam Katok telah mengadakan satu acara umum iaitu Hari Terbuka atau Open Day yang mana acara ini terbuka kepada orang ramai sama ada di dalam sekolah mahupun di luar sekolah.

Tujuan acara ini ada bagi memaklumkan kepada penuntut-penuntut yang ingin memasuki Pusat Tingkatan Enam Katok subjek-subjek yang ditawarkan di pusat ini. Subjek yang baru ditawarkan bagi 2011 adalah
subjek Design & Technology yang baru bermula pada tahun ini.

Penuntut-penuntut boleh mengajukan soalan kepada guru-guru yang hadir bagi setiap subjek mengenai kelayakan bagi mengambil subjek tersebut. Dalam masa yang sama, mereka juga boleh berjumpa dengan Bahagian Kerjaya untuk berbincang mengenai kombinasi subjek yang bersesuaian dengan kerjaya yang ingin dipilih.

Penuntut-penuntut dari sekolah-sekolah seperti Sekolah Seri Mulia Sarjana, Chung Hwa Middle School, Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Hassan dan Sekolah Menengah Masin telah hadir kepada acara tersebut.

Dengan acara ini, ia akan memudahkan penuntut-penuntut bagi membuat pilihan yang tepat bagi pengajian mereka di Pusat Tingkatan Enam Katok.

Jualan Amal bagi Sosiologi.

JUALAN AMAL BAGI SOSIOLOGI

Penuntut – penuntut yang mengambil subjek Sosiologi di Pusat Tingkatan Enam Katok telah menganjurkan aktiviti pertama mereka bagi jualan amal mereka iaitu penjualan tiket wayang yang berharga 50sen sekeping kepada warga sekolah PTEK. Penjualan itu diadakan dari hari Isnin, 17hb Januari 2011 hingga hari Selasa, 18hb Januari 2011. Wayang yang dimainkan adalah kartun Disney ‘Up’ dan ‘Step Up 3D’ di bilik ‘Lecture Theatre’ 1 & 2. Hasil kutipan penjualan tersebut kemudian akan didermakan kepada SMARTER.

Seterusnya, pada hari Sabtu, 22hb Januari 2011, penuntut – penuntut Sosiologi sekali lagi mengadakan ‘Hari Terbuka Sosiologi’ yang juga bagi tujual amal, bermula pada pukul 10pagi hingga 4petang.

Berbagai – bagai aktiviti dan jualan diadakan seperti permainan PS3, jualan makanan dan minuman dan tidak ketinggalan juga dengan penjualan hamster. Hasil kutipan penjualan tersebut kemudian akan didermakan kepada SMARTER.

PTEK juga mengalu – alukan kedatangan orang luar bagi memeriahkan lagi suasana pada hari terbuka tersebut. Dengan kedatangan mereka, penjualan makanan seperti ‘spaghetti’ dan ‘hotdog’ telah laris dijual menjelang tengahari.

Jualan amal ini telah berjalan dengan lancar sehingga seorang penuntut mengatakan bahawa dia merasa seronok dan berharap aktiviti seperti ini akan diadakan lagi selalu.

COHORT 1 Orientation

On January 8th, we warm-heartedly welcomed our cohort 1 juniors from various schools with open arms. All of the seniors of 2011 have been informed on the first day of school that there would be 76 qualified students who will be joining our centre while waiting for their O’level results.

The cohort 1 juniors were given briefing about the rules and regulations of the campus following a welcoming speech by the principal, Cikgu Hajah Rosni bte Haji Amin. The morning session was ended with the introduction of the Student Council Body presented by Sherlyanna Syutri and a tour around the campus.

Meanwhile, an ice breaking session was held in the afternoon. Various games and activities were arranged by several of our lecturers from various departments which to have been believed to get these juniors to get to know each other.

Their 3-days orientation ended smoothly with a closing ceremony where a representative from the COHORT 1 students delivered a speech expressing their gratitude. In addition, he also lead the school oath and finally, a prayer led by Muhammad Hadi wrapped up the whole event.

It was a glorious morning on the 30th November 2010 as the crowd spectated the final K-league match between CreativOl and Xtrabucks United at the school's field. The grandstand was flooded with fans of both teams with enthusiasm.Xtrabucks United

After one full hour and double extra time of the ecstatic match that got both teams to a draw of 2-2, it finally came down to the penalty shootout to decide the official winner. This eventually brought Xtrabucks United emerging as champion after breaking CreativOl's unbeaten records with winning the penalty shootout scores: 4-2.

Netball Interhouse Competition

Just before the Final K-League Match kicked off on the final day of school, an interhouse netball interhouse competition was held at the MPH.

The first two teams to compete were Seri Maharaja against Seri Indera. The game resulted in Seri Maharaja being unbeaten. The second game was then followed by Seri Mahkota competing against Seri Setia where Seri Mahkota ended up as the winner.

The match continued with Seri Setia going against Seri Indera to obtain a placing as 2nd runner up. However, luck was on Seri Setia's side this time. Shortly after, Seri Mahkota went unbeatable against Seri Maharaja during the final round.

Overall, the tournament saw Seri Mahkota emerging as the champion, Seri Maharaja as 1st runner up, Seri Setia as 2nd runner up and Seri Indera receiving the consolation prize.

On 29th November 2010, the school held an academic award presentation to celebrate the top achievers among lower sixth students for their achievements in the end of year exam. The award was divided into two categories: 10 tops students for overall results and top 5 achievers in each subject. On 22nd November 2010, a health promotion talk was held for the BEs in the multi-purpose hall to ensure their awareness of what they eat and what they consume in living a healthy lifestyle. The students were given briefings on healthy diet, fats in food contains, how much food energywe should consume and etc.

Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony for AE 2010

Assalamualaikum,

Alhamdulillah, on the 25^th of November 2010, PTEK held their second Khatam Al-Quran ceremony for the students , in the Multipurpose Hall. Among those present at the holy event were the invited guests, YM Awang Haji Mahrub bin Haji Murni and wife, and a couple of representatives from the Saudi Arabia Embassy on behalf of the Ambassador.

The ceremony was led by the students which started with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah that was led by the invited guest, followed by the reading of verses from Al-Quran; the students read selected verses of the Quran, from Surah Al-Dhuha until Surah An-Nas. The ceremony then proceeded with the presentation of Tahtim which was led by a group of female students, and the presentation of dikir was led by a group of male students.

The ceremony then proceeded with the sprinkling of scented flowers on the students; the guest of honour and his wife also partook in sprinkling the scented flowers. The students then received their certificates for joining the events and the ceremony ended with Doa Selamat by our very own, Cikgu Tamin.

Stepping Down Day And New Blog Holder

On the 21st August 2010, the initiation day for junior MPPs, MPIs and Prefects of 2010/2011 at the same time, stepping down the senior MMPs, MPIs and Prefetcs of 2009/2010 was held at the LT1 from 9-10.15 AM.

Our deputy principal, Mr. Lim Chee Kong gave a speech of appreciation to the senior student council. Then brief the junior student council on the responsibilities and duties of the role models in the school.

Certificates of Appreciation were given to the former MPP President, Jarrod Sim Cheng Jie to be given to hos former council.

Each MPPs, MPIs and Prefects were given certificates one by one for the last moment which was held privately in the conference room for the last time. finally we took the last group photo as the student council 2010.

Energy Clubs' Green Fashion Runway & E-Trail Race

The Energy Clubs of Pusat Tingkatan Enam (PTE) Katok and Meragang formed `The Meratok Energy-Club Association' towards going green. The Meratok EA had recently inaugurated their first activity together with the Green Fashion Runway held at PTE Katok's multi-purpose hall.

The programme was for members from both colleges to design and showcase their clothing made up of recyclable materials. Four groups from each college took part with three students in each team. Its members, showed a lot of creativity and fashion sense, as this was seen when models strutted on the catwalk in front of the judges and audience. It also brought fits of laughter and delight from the crowd. The event ended with a prize-giving ceremony, where Pendekar of PTE Katok won the best group, while Go Blue of PTE Meragang stole the award for the wackiest design.

The next activity, E-Trail Race, was organised in the morning at PTE Meragang. The Energy Club of PTE Meragang committee first gave a warm tour around the campus for Energy Club members from PTE Katok before the race started, as checkpoints were scattered all over the college's compound. It was followed by an aerobics session at the assembly area to warm up participants. The E-Trail Race then kicked off after a short briefing from the President of PTE Meragang's Energy Club. It consisted of various energy-related games, ranging from mind-cracking quizzes to physically challenging sports.

A prize presentation followed after refreshments were provided for the exhausted participants. The day ended with a group photo session, with all of the Energy Club members in attendance.

This collaboration of Energy Clubs between the two prestigious colleges strengthened their relationship, while increasing awareness towards the environment.

A surprise from His Majesty

His Majesty the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam made a surprise visit to our school on July 14^th, 2010. It was a very memorable and endearing occasion for every student in the school. His Majesty was accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Azim and a few officials from the Ministry of Education who arrived along with His Majesty. His arrival was welcomed with a lot of smiles and birthday wishes from the students.

His Majesty's visit involved more than just looking at the school's infrastructure, with the working monarch taking time yesterday to ask many of the students what they were involved in and what they aspired to be. He went around the school compound checking out the buildings and the sports field. He then visited the canteen and talked to a few students.

His Majesty proceeded to the auditorium to watch the martial arts performances that were led by the Tae Kwon Do Club and the Kendo Club. One of the questions he asked was how they would defend themselves if they were attacked from the side, and the Kendo Club demonstrated what to do in such conditions.

He then went to Art Block to look at the art work of the students. His Majesty looked at several presentations in the Co-Curricular Activities Room, enquiring about the activities that the students participated in.

After going to the gallery, he then visited PTEK’s Design and Technology Block and went into several classes where lessons were taking place.

Jog For Funds!

On Thursday 8^th July, PTE Katok and its PTA organised the first annual jogathon at the centre. The guests of honour for the event were Pg Suhaimi Bin Pg Hj Bakar, the Deputy Director of Technical Education at the Ministry of Education and the Principal of PTE Katok, Cikgu Hjh Rosni Binti Hj Mohd Amin.

The female participants began at around 8.20 a.m. and ran 5 kilometres whereas the male participants had to run 7.5 kilometres. After the jogathon refreshments were given to the participants and, later, the students gathered at the Multi-Purpose Hall where prizes were given to those who had collected the most money. There was also a lucky draw for the first 400 students who finished the race early. In the teaching and non-teaching staff category, the teacher to obtain the most sponsorship was Awg Abd Rahman Bin Abdullah with B$316. The highest collector from the student category was Ak Mohammad Fadhullah Iskandar Bin Pg Mohd Suud who raised B$457.

So far, the centre has raised B$14,155.52. Five per cent of this will be donated to DANA Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah, five per cent to the PIBG Fund and the rest is going to be used by the school. This amount will be for the Student Welfare Department and the Computer laboratory. There was also a fair which sold items ranging from food to clothes and flowers.

Energy Day 2010

The 24th of May marked the Energy Day. So to celebrate this day, the Energy Club members were shown selling self-decorated woven bags to the students for $2. Cupcakes made by members and other snacks were also sold as well as Energy Club bookmarks.

The club also pledged to join the “Switch Off & Set” campaign where the members and the students of PTEK stuck “Switch Off When Not Needed” stickers beside switches around the college. The staff and students also set the air-conditioning at 24⁰C or lower than usual.

In the morning of the same day, the Energy Division, Prime Minister’s Office celebrated Energy Day at the Songket Hall, Rizqun International Hotel. The event saw the Minister of Energy handing out awards to public and private sectors for the inaugural National Energy Efficiency & Conservation Initiatives Awards (NEECIA) or the Anugerah Contoh Initiatif Dan Kecekapan Penjimatan Tenaga. For the secondary school and higher institution category, PTEKatok’s Energy Club had managed to grab the award. A trophy, a plaque & a cash award worth $1000 was awarded to the club.

Interschool Debate Competition 2010

On 4th May 2010, PTEK’s Debaters won the 14th Brunei Darussalam Interschool-School Senior Level English Debating Competition 2010. The Grand Final debate commenced at the Ministry of Finance with the case “This House Believes That Eco Tourism Benefits the Local Population”. The school team was on the Proposition side whilst Maktab Sains PSBS is on the Opposition team.

Without further delay, the first speaker, Neo Hwee Yong delivered his talk with an introduction to their argument and explained terms that will be occasionally mentioned regarding the case. He also talked about the case divisions. The debate heated up when the second speaker, Jarrod Sim Cheng Jie started on the content and during the rebuttal of the third speaker Julius Hong Yan Chin.

The other team members were Dk Siti Zulaikha Pg Hj Ishak, Aqilah binti Hj Hashim and Afiqah binti Hj Hashim with supervisors; Johanna Liew, Chong Tze Liang and Dk Zarina Jade.

Xpress Video

On the 29th April 2010, the Xpress Video Competition was held at Lecture Theater 1 organized by the Prefects of PTEK 2009-2010.

Students gathered at the LT1 at 2PM and showed how supportive PTEK students were as LT1 was packed with both Upper 6 & Lower 6 students. The ceremony started with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah.

This was followed by the opening speech by the Head Prefect of the Bureau of Welfare. The objective of the event is to see the ability of students at creating video clips, they way they express themselves in school, to expose students to ICT programmes and to motivate usage of new technological skills.

The competition was open to all students of PTEK with this activity it can challenge the creativity of students in visual entertainment. The theme for this video competition is “College Life”.

The screening and judging day was held days before the event which was on the 26th April on a Monday afternoon. Participants’ videos were given points based on originality, creativity, acting and editing plus add-ons.

A total of 6 groups managed to reach the finals. They are as follows (with description for each video made by the groups themselves- ie. unedited);

Me – ‘Survival Tips In College’
A short video that works with a secondhand camera, unprofessional and unpaid actors, lame director and a made up script 5 seconds ago gives you the ultimate tips on how to survive the busy college life.

Beautiful Minds – ‘Students And Their Beautiful Minds’
Consisting of moving pictures of students in PTEK with their beautiful minds about their college life and how happy they are to be in PTEK.

GP2NE2 – ‘It’s Her Fault’
Dal never miss the 1st place in every exams, but the things had changed since a new student, Zee, transferred to her class managed to beat her score at the end-of-year examination. It made her upset and she planned for revenge, but she never thought that she might lose her best friend after she killed Zee. Zee’s ghost hunts Dal a month after she did.

Krihiik Perodakshen – ‘A Normal Day At School’
A day in your average boy’s college life. Muiz was caught sleeping in class. After class, somebody hit Muiz by accident. At the canteen, the school gang want to collect their money from Muiz. Muiz refused to give it at that time. The leader of the gang ordered his henchman to get rid of Muiz. Muiz isn then saved by Rina. P.S It Is a totally random story.

This is a short-clip about three students who get “Antam” by a mystery man when they read a cursed note found on the floor.

Janji Ada Production – ‘Hit And Misses’
Elmi – The main character, is interested to ask Tikah to be his prom queen. As Tikah & her best friend, Anum pass by, Anum thought that the boys were looking at her. Elmi’s opportunity suddenly appear when she saw Tikah distressed infront of a broken down car. Unfortunately, Tikah did not Fancy Elmi.

The competition was won by the Janji Ada Production lead by Ak Md Fadhul’lah Iskandar. The 2nd place went to Krihiik Perodakshen lead by Md Fauzan bin Hj Abd Aziz while the 3rd place was given to ME lead by Nur Amalina Bte Hj Abu Bakar.

Hopefully the said competition has opened the eyes of students on how visual entertainment can be of useful help to them in the future.

Earth Day 2010

22ndApril is Earth Day. The Energy Club made it a little special by organizing an Eco Art Gallery and Green Science Exhibition at the admin foyer of PTEK.

The Green Science Exhibition (located in front of the Block E) showcased recycled materials combined with technology to create useful and creative equipment such as: Tin Can Robot, Robobug Soda Can, Bottle Catamaran, Amphibian Rover, Solar Oven, Solar Heater, Enviro Battery and Windmill Generator.

On the other hand, at the admin foyer, Eco Art Gallery showed the new Energy Club members showing their projects with topics such as Open Burning, Animal Extinction, Depletion of Ozone, Eutrophication, Nuclear Power, Littering and Causes of Global Warming. All in all, there were 7 groups which participated in the Eco Art Gallery. They were judged based on Creativity, Originality, Relevance, Presentation and Clarity.

The prize ceremony was held on a later date and the results showed the group with the project titled “Ozone Depletion” winning the best presentation while Eutrophication group won the prize for best art.

On the 22nd April, the MPs election for 2010 was held at the MPH in the afternoon. It was between 7 candidates vying for the top positions:

The positions were President, Deputy President, Vice President 1 and Vice President 2.

The voting system was done using ballots. It was compulsory for all of the juniors to be present to cast their votes as to avoid unjust voting. Students were given a ballot each. They cast their votes and when they’re done, they hand them to the prefects in charge of their BE.

Before voting, the candidates had one last speech to present in order to persuade students to vote for them. All of the candidates gave encouraging speeches but as always only one will get the much coveted title.

After the speeches were made, voting began to take place. Votes were counted by the MPs and Prefects. Several minutes after, the results were announced.

E-Club's 1st Anniversary

The 18th of April 2010 marked the very first anniversary of PTEK’s own Energy Club. Energy Club was established on the same day last year and has been growing ever since. Even though faced with ups and downs (just like any normal club), Energy Club still remains as one of the active clubs in school. The Energy Club has successful events in the past. To name a few, Earth Day 2009, Energy Fun Day 2010, etc.

With the motto, “Together, we can save Earth”, this club has been trying to educate fellow students and the general public about the importance of saving energy and to encourage people to join in the same league in tackling problems on global climate concerns together.

Instead of celebrating the anniversary elsewhere, Energy Club celebrated it in PTEK, as it is only proper to celebrate this special occasion at the place where it all started. The occasion provided an opportunity for club members to get acquainted with, especially the juniors. It was bound to be a day full of mentally and physically challenging activities but at the same time, educational and exciting.

The morning followed on with a speech from one of the club’s supervisors, Ms. Raimie Ibrahim. The opening ceremony consisted of the throwing of a tin can and a water bottle to their respective recycle bins. It was then followed by a performance by the senior members with a rendition of “The World is Just Awesome”. The juniors were also summoned to the starting point of the race which was the grand stand. The juniors were put to groups of four and there were 10 checkpoints to go to before being declared the winner. The games consisted of crossword puzzles, word search, wheel of fortune, singing, bottle fishing, etc.

The cake-cutting ceremony took place after lunch and was cut by Ms Raimie, Muhd. Wafiuddin bin Jumat (Club President) and Rhona Britania (Vice President). The anniversary cake featured the club’s logo with the words “Earth, Energy, Environment, Everything”.

Lastly, the event ended with a group photo by all the senior and junior members of the club, along with the banner for the day. Energy Club has definitely captured the hearts of many.

MPP,MPI & Prefects Interview For 2010/2011

This is the time of the year when the lower sixth students get interviewed to take the positions on the Student Council (ie. new MPs, MPI and Prefects for the 2010-2011 batch).

The sessions started from the 5th up to the 10th of April 2010, and these were held at the Student Centre.

Some of the interviewees were confident and excited while others were quite shy during the interviews. At least, they took up the courage to go for the interviews this year and did their best.

O8-09 Senior’ Prize Presentation Ceremony

On 3^rd April, an award ceremony for the best students in the November 2009 BCGCE A level examinations was held in the PTEK Multi-Purpose Hall. The guest of honour was the Director of Examinations, Hj Mohd Masa Masdi Bin Muhd Sai’dun.

The ceremony started with the singing of the National Anthem led by PTEK Choir Club members, followed by the recitation of the doa by one of the lecturers to bless the ceremony. The event continued with a speech of welcome by the Acting Principal of PTEK Hjh Rosni binti Hj Mohd Amin and a speech from the guest of honour.

A traditional dance was then performed before the prize presentation started.

The top achiever was Nuriyah Binti Awang Bagol of AE 16 who obtained an A in Accounting, Chemistry and Mathematics and a B in Physics. Following the presentation of her award, a further 27 students went up on to the stage to receive their certificates.

The ceremony ended with the presentation of a souvenir to the guest of honour and the recitation of the doa by Cikgu Awang Abd Tamin.

Six Teachers From Lion City Came To The Abode of Peace.

On 5^th April 2010, some of you, especially those students who take Bahasa Melayu, may have noticed six Singaporean teachers arrive for two weeks’ teaching practice in the Sultanate.

Cikgu Norhayati bte Awang from The Catholic Junior College and Cikgu Siti Atiqah bte Punari from Jurong Junior College were among the six teachers who were posted to the three sixth form centres in the capital to teach Bahasa Melayu. Cikgu Norhayati bte Awang and Cikgu Siti Atiqah bte Punari were posted to PTEK while Cikgu Halimah bte Rahmat and Cikgu Rosemah bte Rashid did their teaching practice at PTE Meragang and Cikgu Aziyanti bte Muhd Mudakir and Cikgu Zaibah bte Muhd spent their two weeks at Maktab Duli. These teachers were supervised by Cikgu Fadilah bte Isnin, their supervisor.

For those of you who are wondering just what a junior college is, it is another term for a sixth form centre. Students who go to a junior college are there to study for their A Levels and the equivalents of BEs and AEs in these institutions are JC1 (Junior College 1) and JC2.

The teachers were part of an immersion programme (The Inaugural Immersion Programme for Malay Junior College Teachers) organised by the Ministry of Education in Singapore. This programme was held from 4^th April until 18^th April with the aim of immersing the selected teachers in Bruneian culture to enable them to learn more about Brunei’s rich culture, its people and the Malay Language. At the same time, these teachers were able to share their ideas and experiences in teaching the subject with local teachers.

During their time at the three sixth form centres in question, the six teachers said that they had been given a warm welcome by the students and that they had felt completely at ease. They remarked that the students in Brunei were really positive about learning and that they didn’t really see any discipline problems. Their first impression of the schools they were posted to was that the infrastructure was modern and the facilities were almost on a par with Singapore’s. They also learned new Bruneian words such as bah, for them as opposed to flood in Standard Malay and ambung which means sombong. They were also surprised to hear Bruneians using the word kita as a personal pronoun for you and not us as in Standard Malay.

While they were in Brunei, they attended several talks and seminars at PTEM, PTEK, UBD and the Dewan Bahasa and Pustaka. However, it was not all work as the six visiting teachers got the chance to go to Ulu Temburong and have dinner with the people there.

It is no wonder that all six teachers stated enthusiastically that they had enjoyed their time in Brunei and that they would love to make another visit if the opportunity arose.

Name: Cikgu Norhayati bte Awang

Experience and background: a Malay teacher who teaches at the Catholic Junior College. She is in charge of the Malay Cultural Society and has been a teacher at the college for ten years.

Name: Cikgu Siti Atiqah bte Punari

Experience and background: also a Malay teacher. She taught at a secondary school for one and a half years, teaching students from Form 1 to Form 4, before taking study leave to do a degree at the University of Malaysia to study Malay Language and Literature, as well as Linguistics, in greater depth. On completing her course, she went to the Johor Junior College to teach Malay Language and Literature and was the only Malay member of staff.

Their last quote before leaving PTE Katok was: “Grab every learning opportunity that comes your way, because it may not knock on your door again!”

They also left a Malay poem for all the PTE Katok family:

Energy Fun Day

To welcome the Energy Club Junior members, the E-Club AJK & Supervisor, Ms Raimie organized an Energy Fun Day on the 27th of March at Berakas Forest Reserve. It is very much like an initiation for the juniors to get to know the club more as well as its members.

A bus took participants of the event from school to the Berakas Forest Reserve. They were divided into five coloured teams: Tanah (brown), LQC (white), Super E (blue), Hybrid (red) & Violet (purple) while the AJKs were the “green team”. All teams had bands on their wrists to indicate their teams.

The event started with a short briefing from the AJKs followed by a trekking trip around the reserve. Everyone even got the chance to see the newly-built Eco park, although it has not been publicly opened yet. Shortly after trekking and a short break, the games started. Games include an obstacle race, Energy quizzes, puzzle hunt, sand art, etc.

Points were given to completed tasks and will be added up to their scores at the end. Overall, the Hybrid/Red team won. Followed by Super E and Violet.

Educational Trip To Turtle Farm

On the 22nd March 2010, all of the Upper Sixth GP students were given an educational trip to the turtle farm located in Serasa during March holidays

The aim was to see the preservation of turtles from extinction due to being captured by smugglers or eaten by predators. Or getting poisoned due to the water pollution.

Firstly, they were greeted with an opening speech and give a talk by the one of the officers of Marine culture (or “Mariculture”) or in Malay, “Pegawai Perikanan Laut”. The students were also shown a video about the background information of turtles and the history of the said Turtle farm.

After all of that, the students were given an opportunity to take pictures with the turtles kept in captivity around the farm and to be able to touch the turtles as well. Even though some turtles struggled as they didn’t want to be touched (and there were incidents when the turtles did bite some), this did not stop students from wanting to take pictures with the turtles.

A group photo was taken with all the students, the supervisors and the officers of the Turtle Farm.The students had fun as they’ve even given nicknames to the turtles such as “Terry” etc. and they wanted to stay longer to play with the turtles.

Sociology Week 2010

Sociology week was a charity event held by the sociology students and organized of course, by the generous and warm-hearted sociology teachers :)

It was held for four days during the last days of term one, which is on the 15th - 18th March.

The sociology students were divided into several committees such as food, games, car wash, movie and also charity collection. All the profit goes to the charity organization 'sound of hope'.

On the 15th, the sociology students were given a talk by the people from 'Sounds Of Hope'. To be honest, we were shocked when we were told that there are minorities of us Bruneians that are living in poverty. It was heart breaking to see some of them living in a container or under the tree. We're just glad that the sociology department is giving us the opportunity to help those in need.

The charity event as a whole was a success. Lets just say we earned quite a lot. THANKS to all the students and teachers who contributed :)

VIP Day For Upper Sixth 2010

On the afternoon of 13th March, a VIP day especially for the upper six students was held at the MPH. It was another day for parents to meet up with their sons’/daughters’ subject tutors to talk about the last Academic Progress Report (APR) in February as well as comments on their performances and attitude in class for the past months.

The MPH was flooded with concerned parents and nervous students wondering what’s to become of the day. But all in all, the day went on smoothly without any shortcomings.

Thank you to the MPPs, MPIs and prefects who helped parents with the collection of APR report papers for students at the entrance of the MPH. Good job everyone!

Blood Donation Drive at PTEK

On the 13th of March 2010, the national blood donation drive stopped by at PTEK. It was open to all the students and staff of the school.

“Among the Youth and Sports Department’s objectives in holding it are to encourage the public, especially youths, to be involved in welfare projects as well as to help replenish the stock at the National Blood Bank.”

Students fill in entry forms at the ground floor of the administration building, foyer. The conditions for those donating blood are donors should be 18 years old or above and does not suffer from any form of blood disease.

To those students kind enough to participate with the blood donation, they were given souvenirs by the organizers at the site.

A huge thank you to those who volunteered and made the blood donation drive successful. Your help is very much appreciated.

Lower Sixth Orientation 2010 (Day 4)

The 9th of March 2010 was the last day of orientation for the new batch of students at PTEK. The orientation consisted of a talk by a representative for all the lower sixth students. The whole afternoon was just filled with talks. It was a short afternoon as to allow the BEs to enjoy the rest of their afternoon.

Thank you to all of the MPPs, MPIs & Prefects who helped out throughout all the four days of orientation for the new students. J Hopefully, these past few days were fun for the new intake & would come to love the college soon.

Lower Sixth Orientation 2010 (Day 3)

On the 3rd day of Orientation (afternoon session), the lower sixth students gathered at the assembly area and were all wearing their PTEK sports attire. They had games and activities prepared by the MPs (2009-2010) to create a bond among juniors as they themselves are the ones who are going to work with each other.

The other activities were:

1) The Memory Game – A game where a representative from each group should recite the details of the students who were hand-picked by the MCs from each group.

2) Chinese Whisper – The phrase that was passed along was “The rain in Spain falls mainly in the plain” and the result of the game, was a lot of laughter.

3) Trees & Birds - Group members were to act as trees and become shelter for those members pretending as birds. The winning group would be the one with the most members still remaining.

The MPs demonstrated the chicken dance to the groups who lost in the Memory Game and they were asked to dance it as well. It was a hot but overall, a fun experience for the new students of PTEK.

Lower Sixth Orientation 2010 (Day 2)

On the 2nd day of Orientation which was on the 6th of March 2010, the lower sixth students were given a talk by departments of the college which are: Finance, Welfare, Counselling, Student Affairs and by the student council, the MPs.

In the afternoon, CCA performances were held by the following clubs:
1) Traditional Dance Club
2) Silat Club
3) Choir Club
4) Energy Club
5) Kendo Club
6) Drama Club
7) Korean Culture Club
8) Adventure Club
9) Students Band Club
After the performances, the juniors were asked to proceed to the Dining Hall where clubs had booths set up to attract new members (curious juniors, more likely) to be added to their fun-filled clubs.

Lower Sixth Orientation 2010 (Day 1)

On the 4th March 2010, new PTEK lower sixth students for 2010 were welcomed at the MPH for their first day of orientation. On their first day of orientation, fees for school necessities (the school uniform, school magazine, school fund, etc) were settled. With that, they were also given a talk by the Principal and teachers of the school for their first day in school.

In the afternoon, the MPs became tour guides as they gave a tour around the school to the juniors.

Maulud Nabi Procession at the Capital

On the 27th February, male students and teachers of PTEK had to go the SOAS Field at 7.30am, as PTEK is among the schools which did not want to miss the chance to honour Prophet Nabi Muhammad S.A.W’s birth.

They even had the opportunity to “salam” with his majesty. After that, the Dikir Marhaban was recited by everyone on the field.

The march started from the SOAS field and back. The procession took about 40 minutes.

The 26th National Day @ PTEK

On the early morning of 25th February 2010, students were informed to assemble at the assembly area. Beforehand, there was a notice to all students that they were allowed to wear the national clothes and another thing is that, they must consist of colours (ie. yellow, black, white & red) of the Brunei flag. So on that day, students were wearing their cara melayu (for the male students) while baju kurung for the females.

The students gathered to sing the national anthem while the Brunei flag was raised and waved. Then, a speech was followed by Mr. Lim Chee Kong. To end the assembly, the choir club members sang ‘Tekad Kemerdekaan‘ along with the students.

HAPPY 26th NATIONAL DAY!SELAMAT HARI KEBANGSAAN KE-26!

Finally, the National Day has come. It’s the 23rd February 2010, the 26th Independence Day of Brunei Darussalam. As like every year on this particular day, Bruneians from all walks of life get together with one aim: To show their patriotism for the country they love, Brunei. This year is no different, students and teachers from various schools, officers and staff from different ministries, and other government officials also other citizens gathered today to celebrate this important occasion. As a tradition, the National Day this year was held at the Taman Sir Omar Ali Saifuddien at the capital.

Although it was raining half of the morning, participants’ patriotism did not falter. As they said, the show must go on. Partakers lined up under the rain and some were practicing their marching to perfection. Primary school students also lined up on sidewalks to wave their flags to welcome the His Majesty, the Sultan and the royal family’s arrival. As the public too did not want to miss this memorable day, some were standing outside of the Taman SOAS and cheering on the participants.

With this year’s theme, Negaraku Brunei Darussalam, about 7000 participants from over 100 aggregations, marched confidently in front of His Majesty, the Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and members of the royal family. Pusat Tingkatan Enam Katok was the 47th group to have this privilege to march and show their devotion. (A/N: Even though the tiles were slippery, thank heavens, none of us slipped.

The event was wonderful and festive. The parade went well and everything was joyous. You can see smiles everywhere you look. No matter what age, you can see how patriotic Bruneians are. Brunei is such a peaceful country and the residents are considered fortunate to be living in this blessed nation.

It was a really memorable opportunity to partake in this fantastic celebration.
