On the 22nd March 2010, all of the Upper Sixth GP students were given an educational trip to the turtle farm located in Serasa during March holidays
The aim was to see the preservation of turtles from extinction due to being captured by smugglers or eaten by predators. Or getting poisoned due to the water pollution.
Firstly, they were greeted with an opening speech and give a talk by the one of the officers of Marine culture (or “Mariculture”) or in Malay, “Pegawai Perikanan Laut”. The students were also shown a video about the background information of turtles and the history of the said Turtle farm.
After all of that, the students were given an opportunity to take pictures with the turtles kept in captivity around the farm and to be able to touch the turtles as well. Even though some turtles struggled as they didn’t want to be touched (and there were incidents when the turtles did bite some), this did not stop students from wanting to take pictures with the turtles.
A group photo was taken with all the students, the supervisors and the officers of the Turtle Farm. The students had fun as they’ve even given nicknames to the turtles such as “Terry” etc. and they wanted to stay longer to play with the turtles.
