Who would’ve thought a simple tree planting activity can actually create closer ties between schools?
On Monday, 15th of June 2009, our school, PTEK, along with Kemuda Institute & PTE Meragang joined forces to make Badas Forest Reserve greener than it already is. This was to support ISB’s Million Trees project and through the sponsorship of CIC Environmental Services, the activity was made possible.
With a mindset of wanting to plant 2,600 trees on that day, the schools were ready for action! But first, a briefing was made by one of the officers. He showed the way on how the planting should be done.
Alone, our school managed to plant approximately 600 trees. One of the students, Kong, actually planted 109 trees! That’s what you call determination right there. Dryobalanops rappa or locally known as Pokok Kapur Paya was the type of tree species being planted at the site.
In the end, the aim was accomplished and in just a short amount of time. Mr. David Taylor, the Principal of ISB & the Project Director, even commented that we planted trees faster than the former group that went tree planting. What an accomplishment!
