After making the Kendo expose, I think it should be appropriate to make an expose to the Japanese Club since its coinciding with each other. Don't you think that after learning its self defense, you should learn its culture? =) We heard of Japanese Club's existance at our college and the annoucements are here and there, so let's take a look what is really happening inside the club.
According to the president of Japanese Club, the purpose of the club is so that interested students especially in PTE Katok can learn about Japanese Culture and Language and also come together and share a bit what they know about Japanese Culture and Language. As always, I came at the right time as in their meeting, the teacher in charge, Mr Bobby Chong fron English Department, was going to explain a bit about the club. Also, the advantage of being at the right time, most of us saw at the notice board that they're being required to bring their pendrives right? The reason is so that the president and vice president could transfer a Japanese Learning software program to share the information that they got.
Mr Bobby Chong explaining to the students
Basically in the club, it is a students' runned club where it is a somewhat cultural and academic club. It means that you learn something and have fun while learning. Also, being students' runned, it shows that everyone can have a say to what they want to do in the club as long as its linked to Japanese Cultures. Mr Bobby Chong explained what the students can do in the club and highlights the possibilities to some activities that the students suggested for the club to be active. The activities are like watching videos about Japanese Culture, playing Japanese traditional games, sushi making, wearing "kimono" or "yukato", making "ikebana" which is Japanese style of flower arrangement and also learn the Japanese art of paper folding, more commonly known as "origami". Upon doing these activities, the PTE Katok Japanese Club will have close help connections with the BJFA UBD and also the Japanese Embassy when necessary.
Notes from a member of Japanese Club as they were learning about the Japanese language
The current plans of the Japanese Club is that most probably they will have an "origami" session on the 25th, watching movies or having an "ikebana" session on the 2nd of May and trading videos on the 9th. Coming to their meeting really made me learn alot about Japanese Culture and also I've learnt Japanese new Japanese words. ^^ Before wrapping up the observing session, I've interviewed the president and vice presidents, who are Goh Jien Hann and Ak Abu Afiq bin Pg Abu Bakar respectively about what they are doing at the present time. As a friendly challenge, I asked them to translate my name into Japanese letters, familiarly known as "katagana" and amazingly, they were able to do it.
This is my name in "katagana"
Message from the President of Japanese Club
Lastly, "Arigato Gozaimasu" to the Japanese Club for having me to observe and participate into the club, especially to Mr Bobby Chong and also to the President, Goh Jien Hann, and vice president, Abu Afiq to answer my questions. Long Live Japan!
